MEAL PLANNING
Planning meals for the household can be a very daunting task, especially when you have kids and you are health conscious. Most of the time, we are tempted to just eat what is available and recent studies show that the traditional evening meals we eat in this part of the world are not easily digestible and is responsible for the alarming rate diet related diseases.
Contrary to popular opinion, meal planning is one of the ways to be organized when it comes to your home and budget. A sound meal plan helps you know what groceries to buy and in what quantity and how to use leftovers when you make dishes that your family cannot finish in one sitting. It also gives you a fairly good idea of how much it takes to feed your family in month which will go a long way when planning your family finance. That's a topic for another day.
So I took the plunge and decided to plan my family menu and my daughter's lunch menu during the week and believe me, it was one of the best things I'd done for myself in recent times. It eliminated the brain cracking when the evening was approaching and repeated meals Tolu had in her school lunch pack.
Here's how to arrive at yours
1. Take into account your individual daily schedules
2. Note every individual's favorite food and make sure it is made at least once a week
3. Make carbohydrates your afternoon meals during the week but make it for dinner on Saturdays and Sunday's when you know you can all eat before 7 to ensure there's enough time for it to digest before bed.
4. Take the pain to plan in cereals and spreads for bread so you can buy the exact quantity for a month in other to have staple items as fresh as you can get them
5. Do the same with frozen food and beef to keep it as fresh as it can possibly be.
As is my experience, I know that no organizational tool stays forever. A time will come when I will need to tweak it to accommodate new conditions in the home. Until then, this works perfectly. Hope you enjoy making and using yours as I have.
Stay blessed.
